John Engel - Principal
Hi, my name is John Engel. I have been the principal of Southwest High School since 2015. Prior to working at Southwest High School, I was the principal of Mclean Middle School and Mary Louise Phillips Elementary. I attended Salisbury State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Education. I later attended the University of Texas at Arlington where I received my Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I am married to my wife, Cassandra, and have four wonderful children. I am thankful for the opportunity to work in such a supportive and positive environment.

Lorin Mobley - 12th Grade Assistant Principal
Hello, my name is Lorin Mobley. I come to you from South Hills High School where I was a freshman success coach. Prior to that, I served as a coordinator for FWISD's instructional coaching program and taught at Leonard Middle School. I studied at The University of North Texas for my Bachelor's and The University of Texas Arlington for my Master's. When I am not at Southwest, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Trent, and our two dogs, Huckleberry and Penny. I am looking forward to having a great year at Southwest High School! Go Raiders!
Shayma Alzubi - 9th Grade Assistant Principal
This is Ms. Alzubi's third year here with us at Southwest High School. She is no stranger to FWISD though! She came to us from Arlington Heights High School where she was an AP as well. Ms. Alzubi has also taught for many years at Carter Riverside. She moved to Fort Worth from California in order to teach. Ms. Alzubi attended the University of California, Riverside (UCR) where she earned a B.S. in Biochemistry. She loves Iced White Chocolate Mocha and Flaming Hot Cheetos!

Francisco Maldonado - 10th and 11th Grade Assistant Principal
Francisco Maldonado is proud to serve Southwest High School as a new assistant principal. This is his ninth year in education and with Fort Worth ISD. He spent six years teaching social studies at the International Newcomer Academy, followed by two years as a Freshman Success Coach. Most recently, he served as a Principal Resident through Fort Worth ISD’s partnership with Texas Tech University.
Mr. Maldonado earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and his master’s degree from Texas Tech University.
Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. Together, they love watching classic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood, gardening, and exploring local trails.
